Notes on Standard
This ENV specifies a test method for the determination of the durability of hand and power operated reclining and tilting mechanisms. It also specifies test methods for the determination of durability of mechanisms for converting sofas and chairs into beds. Test methods for strength and durability of the structure are not included. This standard cannot be purchased through TRADA bookshop. It is under review and will be available when updated to full standard after review

Periodic review - updating to a full standard after feedback Whilst the UK agreed with the document in general, there are concerns that the loads used are not high enough to represent real life, and these concerns have been passed back to Europe. Following first enquiry it has been decided to incorporate a new test dummy to load the chair under test. This dummy was recommended by France and is a considerable improvement on the original. This is however a significant technical change and will result in the document being sent out for a second enquiry, and therefore publication will be delayed
